5 benefits to delegating well

You are in control of your growing business. You have lots of projects. Deadlines are tight and there are several emergencies to manage every day. You get calls all day from employees asking you what you want to do to fix a problem. Lack of manpower doesn’t help, nor does COVID with more absent employees that caught it. You have positions posted to find labor, but you are not receiving any CV.

Does this situation resemble your reality? I see it every day with my clients, you are not the only ones in this situation.

There are several causes for this kind of situation. One that I see all the time is the lack of delegation. I can already hear you telling me, come on, who do you want me to delegate to, I’m already short on manpower. And we’re all overwhelmed. Also, nobody in my team can answer because the information is in my head, it’s me who knows what to do.

What if you could delegate, one thing at a time, to your employees? In a planned way, with the goal of gradually empowering them over the next 6 to 12 months. I hear you telling me, that’s too good to be true.

It is, however, quite feasible and full of advantages. Here are 5, to name a few.

  1. Have more time to do the tasks according to your role, thus fulfilling your role and improving your leadership. Yes, for that you need clear and well-defined roles and responsibilities in your teams.
  2. Work on your business and less in it, such as putting in place actions to continue to promote the growth of your business, putting in place different business strategies to stand out or seek out new customers or markets.
  3. Develop your employees’ potential and skills of your employees. Today, people are looking for more than just a salary! I know that many people think that salary is the most important aspect in motivating employees. However, all the studies on the subject show that, on the contrary, people are looking for more than just a salary and their development is one of the most important criteria.
  4. Motivate your employees by trusting them. By telling them that you are confident that they will be able to handle these new responsibilities.
  5. Improve your quality of life! Work less by working better and with less stress and pressure.

Be careful though, delegating is not getting rid of unwanted tasks, giving an order or letting go just to go back and do it again later. Delegating well takes planning and letting go. You need to agree not to do everything and to entrust responsibilities and power to someone else.
